School Meals
Dinner Money
All children in the Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 (up to and including year 2) are entitled to a free school meal under the current Government Scheme. For children in Key Stage 2 (Years 3 – 6) a school dinner will cost £2.50 a day, £12.50 per week (this cost is set by the LEA). Some pupils in Key Stage 2 may also be entitled to a free school lunch if they have a parent/carer in receipt of certain benefits or support. Registering for Free School Meals might also entitle you to other benefits, for example free school milk for your child. Requests for this entitlement are made online. Dinner money must be paid in advance; either on a Monday morning for the coming week or for the half or full term ahead if you find this more convenient. All payments must be made via ParentPay, a secure online payment system. Please enquire at the school office for further information.
It is very important that dinners are paid for upfront. Persistent non-payment could unfortunately result in the withdrawal of school meals for your child as per Local Authority guidelines.
If your child is late, a dinner should be ordered at the school office as soon as possible. If your child needs to attend a medical appointment during the morning session, but will be back in time for dinner, please inform the class teacher beforehand so a dinner will be ordered on the day of the appointment.

Packed Lunches
Children may bring sandwiches to school instead of having a school dinner. Children have to leave their sandwiches in their classroom, or on their class trolley until they are required. Any packaging or uneaten food is returned in the packed lunch box so it can be disposed of at home.
To ensure that all packed lunches brought from home provide the pupil with healthy and nutritious food that is similar to food served in schools (which is now regulated by national standards) we have a packed lunch policy in place. Water & Milk
All children in school are encouraged to have regular drinks of water. Please send your child with a clearly marked water bottle (with a sports top) so that they can have a drink when they need one.
Milk is available for all children in the Foundation Stage up to Year 3 who would like it. Milk is completely free for all children under five and is subsidised for children aged five or over at around £15.00 per term (this cost is set by the LEA). DMBC operate an online system provided by ‘Cool Milk’ where you can register and pay for your child’s milk. Each pupil that registers with ‘Cool Milk’ will receive a carton of semi-skimmed milk every day.
My child is under five
- All children under 5 are initially registered by the school and will receive their milk on the day they start school.
- Free milk will continue until the Friday before your child’s fifth birthday. You will receive a payment request three weeks before this time – if you wish your child to continue to receive school milk simply make a payment.
My child is five or older
- Complete a registration form (available from school) or register online as soon as possible (coolmilk.com/register). Shortly after registering you will receive a payment request.
